Elegance Lost in the Spirit of the Times: Social Transformation from Etiquette to Digital Individualism
Abstract
This study examines the tumultuous transformation of the concepts of "elegance" and "manners" from the beginning of human history to the digital age. It explores, from a sociological perspective, how the position of women—a symbol of balance and grace in the history of prophets—evolved from an object of property during the Ottoman era to a digital object of consumption in the modern age. The study's central argument is that unilaterally attributing morality and grace solely to women is a form of social hypocrisy, and that the root of today's digital degradation lies in economic poverty and the failure to instill a sense of "individual" awareness. The article emphasizes the need for family and education-based social rehabilitation, rather than temporary solutions described as "oil on water." Keywords: Etiquette, Social Transformation, Digital Individualism, Women's Status, Erosion of Grace, Social Welfare, Individual Consciousness, Moral Hypocrisy
