Formulation And Evaluation of Ondansetron Hydrochloride Medicated Jelly
Abstract
Ondansetron medicated jelly is an emerging oral drug delivery system developed to enhance patient compliance and provide rapid therapeutic action. Ondansetron is a highly effective antiemetic agent, extensively utilized to treat and prevent nausea and vomiting resulting from various causes, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and postoperative recovery. It prevents 5-HT from depolarizing vagal afferents in the G.I.T., NTS, and CTZ through 5-HT3 receptors. Compared to liquid dose forms, it is easier to administer to children. This formulation is an excellent substitute for administering medication to elderly, dysphagic, and paediatric patients. They provide considerable benefits over both liquid and solid dosage forms because they change into a liquid-like state a few seconds to a minute after being administered and stay solid during storage, which helps with dosage form stability. Oral jellies therefore offer a great deal of potential to be used as a delivery strategy for most medications in the near future.
