Potential field simulation using MatLab
Abstract
This MATLAB code is used to simulate electric potential fields in conductive media. The workflow is based on the import of a three-dimensional CAD model in .stp format, which must be created beforehand using suitable CAD software. The imported geometry defines the simulation domain and can be adapted to different sensor layouts, electrode configurations, and geometric arrangements. Multiple models representing different configurations can be generated and analyzed sequentially using the same code framework. This code was specifically applied to compute the current response of a conductivity-based liquid film thickness sensor. Non-conductive, spherical droplets are introduced as excluded regions within the conductive simulation domain to represent dispersed droplets crossing the electric potential field. The resulting perturbation of the potential field and current density is evaluated at the receiver electrodes, enabling the analysis of signal amplitude and spatial signal profiles as a function of droplet size, position, and distance from the sensor surface. The code solves a steady-state conduction problem under prescribed electrode potentials and insulating boundary conditions and provides the basis for systematic parameter studies as well as comparison with experimental sensor signals.
