INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO TEACHING ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS: ENHANCING STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AND MOTIVATION
Abstract
The rapid globalization of communication and the increasing importance of English in professional and academic domains have made effective English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction a critical component of secondary education. Traditional teacher-centered methods, often focused on grammar memorization and rote learning, have shown limited effectiveness in fostering student engagement and motivation. This paper explores innovative approaches to EFL teaching that actively involve learners and enhance motivation, including technology integration, communicative language teaching, project-based learning, gamification, and differentiated instruction. The study reviews recent research and practical applications, emphasizing the benefits of these strategies in promoting linguistic competence, learner autonomy, and long-term academic success. Findings suggest that incorporating innovative approaches in secondary school EFL classrooms results in higher engagement, better language acquisition outcomes, and more positive learner attitudes toward English learning.
