Abstract

The author withdraws the quantitative prediction but acknowledges that the intuition linking a moving muon (γ=29.3) with a stationary muon in a strong field was based on a physically meaningful scale: the de Broglie wavelength of a stationary muon is indeed ~1 µm, and this is an accurate description of the quantum uncertainty of its position. However, quantum delocalisation does not translate to time dilation of the decay rate, as the latter is determined by weak-interaction dynamics in the muon's rest frame.
