Analysis of Input Current Shaping and Voltage Regulation in Totem-Pole PFC Converters with Different Low-Frequency Devices
Abstract
This paper delivers on the design and simulation of a bridgeless totem pole PowerFactor Correction (PFC) in which three different low-frequency devices have been selected:the MOSFET, diode, and Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR). This work attempts to establishthe relationship between the selected low-frequency device and the converter's efficiency, thequality of the input current, the switching stress, and the converter's overall performance. Acomplete model of the system was constructed in MATLAB/Simulink. The low-frequencySCR configuration demonstrated a slight reduction in reverse recovery, a smoother shapedcurrent, and efficiency equivalent to that of the MOSFET. While the diode configuration wasmore inefficient, it was more straight forward. The selection of the devices operating at lowfrequency was validated as a factor that affected the system performance when implementedin totem pole PFC converters.
