Digital Time Management in Education for SDG 4: A Systematic Review
Abstract
Rapid development of digital learning environments has made even more pressing the need forefficient time management techniques which preserve attention, cognitive stamina, and academicperformance. This is a systematic review of the digital time management tools, particularly thePomodoro Technique and similar productivity apps, and their contribution to the achievement ofSustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) on sustaining inclusive and equitable qualityeducation. It reviews empirical studies published since 2020, focusing on the attention span, selfregulated learning, AI productivity tools, and digital self-control apps. The evidence is clear thatpredictable time periods, a learning cycle with breaks, and personalised digital tools positivelyaffect attention, cognitive load, and task productivity The long term challenges of the Pomodorotechniques, however, include technostress, social media distractions, and the digital divide thatlimit the full potential of these time management systems. While Pomodoro-style techniques arelikely to produce positive short term outcomes in a variety of educational contexts, their longterm effects, particularly in resource poor contexts, remain largely unexplored. The review suggests that digital time-management strategies can help achieve SDG 4 targetswithin teaching and institutional frameworks if applied with care. It also suggests that differencesamong cultures, long-term behavior impacts, equity of AI support, and other such issues need tobe researched further.
