Main Title: Paradigm Traps and Institutional Inertia: From the Crisis in Fundamental Physics to the Systematic Salvation of the Scientific Ecosystem Subtitle: From Monopoly of Discourse Power to Delay of Truth—Voicing for the Delayed Scientific Explorers
Abstract
When the scientific system itself becomes the primary obstacle to discovering truth, how should we save ourselves? Currently, fundamental physics faces a profound explanatory crisis and stagnation in the fields of cosmology and quantum gravity. This paper argues that this crisis is far from a purely technical dilemma; its deep root lies in the coupling of the modern academic system with human nature (the defense of vested interests and avoidance of uncertainty), leading to systematic innovation suppression and paradigm shift failure. A typical symptom is that the most subversive ideas are marginalized when they need support the most, yet recognized as "foresight" only after their proposers have exhausted their academic prime. Through historical analogies (such as the Copernican Revolution and the controversy over the ether theory) and empirical analysis of existing academic power and resource allocation mechanisms, this paper reveals how "monopoly of discourse power—interest binding" alienates the scientific process. Research by Fang F, Bowen A, and Casadevall A (2016) published in eLife shows that the current peer review system of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) is no more effective than random allocation in selecting high-impact research. Meanwhile, parameter measurement disputes, theoretical verification dilemmas, and resource centralization in fundamental physics further exacerbate the crisis. This paper further points out that the academic honor system represented by the Nobel Prize, together with journal review mechanisms, exhibits a significant "Truth Delay Effect," which recognizes subversive researchers only after exhausting their best innovative energy, becoming an implicit barrier to scientific breakthroughs. Finally, this paper proposes a set of institutional reform plans aimed at protecting subversive ideas and reconstructing the health of the scientific ecosystem, calling for freeing science from self-sustaining inertia and returning it to its essence of exploring the unknown and serving civilization.
