Abstract

Larvae (n = 10) were inoculated with doses ranging from 103-106 Colony Forming Units (CFU)/larva of Klebsiella pneumoniae 52145 (clinical isolate) (A), Brucella abortus 2308W (B. abortus 2308 virulent biovar 1, smooth Lipopolysaccharide, LPS), spontaneous nalidixic acid resistant; it is virulent in mice and has been sequenced and found to differ from 2308 to 2308A) (B), ΔvirB10 (B. abortus 2308W mutant lacking a functional VirB system; non-polar mutant in virB10) and Δper B. abortus 2308W (B. abortus 2308W mutant lacking a functional perosamine-synthase gene; the per gene is involved in the synthesis of the O-polysaccharide of the LPS) mutants (C) and B. microti CCM4915 (B. microti CCM4915 wild-type strain) (D); as well as a Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS)-injected control. Kaplan Meyer survival curves significance was analysed by the Log-rank Mantel-Cox test; differences between values of each sample versus PBS were considered significant at p < 0.05 (*), p < 0.005 (**) and p < 0.0005 (***).
