The Thermodynamic Theorem of Life: Gradient Infrastructure as an Optimization Strategy
Abstract
This paper presents a thermodynamic proof demonstrating that biological systems achieve greater functional value than maximally efficient direct energy-coupled systems. By investing energy into reusable gradient infrastructure, biological systems sacrifice raw efficiency to gain leverage, concurrency, and persistence. Computational and analytical results show a 2.3× functional advantage, explaining life as an inevitable thermodynamic optimization under entropy rather than a chemical accident.
