Health as Laminar Flow: A Geometric Interpretation of Biological Coherence
Abstract
This short conceptual paper presents a geometric interpretation of biological health using an analogy from fluid dynamics. Health is framed as laminar flow—the coherent, low-energy propagation of biological activity within structured constraints. When boundaries remain well-formed, biological oscillations remain aligned and consequences lead constructively forward. When constraints degrade or misalign, flow becomes turbulent, increasing energetic cost and fragmenting coherence. The framework reframes disease, breakdown, and stress not as adversarial phenomena but as geometric misalignments between flow and constraint. Healing, in this view, corresponds to restoring boundary clarity and alignment rather than suppressing motion. This perspective is non-prescriptive and intended as a unifying, systems-level interpretation applicable across biology, ecology, and complex adaptive systems.
