CLIMAAX M16 deliverable: CLIMAAXKòrsou
Abstract
CLIMAAXKòrsou Phase 2 - Climate Risk Assessment for Curaçao Climate risk assessment for the island of Curaçao (Caribbean Netherlands) conducted under the EU Horizon Europe CLIMAAX framework. This Phase 2 assessment refines and extends initial risk analyses using local data integration and improved spatial resolution. Four hazards assessed: - Coastal Flooding: Sea level rise (IPCC AR6) and storm surge (GTSM reanalysis) scenarios for 2050 and 2100 - Pluvial Flooding: Extreme rainfall analysis using 32-year IDF curves with climate change intensification - Heat Stress: Land surface temperature mapping (Landsat) with urban heat island quantification - Drought: Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) analysis with precipitation decline projections Key features: - Spatial resolution: 10-30m (vs 12km global models) - Local bias correction using MDC 12-station meteorological network (1993-2025) - Population at risk metrics for 154,640 residents across 60 administrative geozones - SSP1-2.6 to SSP5-8.5 scenarios with P10/P50/P90 uncertainty ranges Conducted by: Meteorological Department Curaçao (MDC) Framework: CLIMAAX (Climate Risk Assessment for European Regions) Funding: EU Horizon Europe Programme
