Propuesta de formación en competencias ciudadanas a partir del oficio realizado por los alfareros del municipio de Momil (Córdoba, Colombia)
Abstract
This master’s thesis presents a proposal for the development of civic competencies through the traditional pottery craft practiced by the artisans of Momil (Córdoba, Colombia), a municipality located in the Ciénaga Grande del Bajo Sinú region. Fieldwork conducted with potters, educators, and community members revealed a significant lack of pedagogical strategies aimed at strengthening civic culture and at protecting and transmitting local traditions, particularly pottery as intangible cultural heritage. In response, the study asks: How can civic competencies be fostered through the pottery craft practiced in Momil? The project proposes a didactic and immersive pedagogical tool designed to enhance respect for diversity, peaceful coexistence, and democratic participation among children and young people. The research combines surveys of 48 local actors (potters, government representatives, and school staff), historical sources, cartography, participant observation, field diaries, and photographic records. The theoretical framework integrates concepts of civic competencies, heritage education, and intangible cultural heritage, while the legal framework draws on Colombian and international cultural and educational policy. The results demonstrate that, in contexts where formal civic education strategies are weak, local crafts such as pottery can function as powerful pedagogical instruments when re-signified as heritage-based learning practices.
