Development of an HTML5-Based Interactive Mahjong Game for Early Childhood Learning
Abstract
Early childhood education requires innovative and engaging learning media to optimize cognitive development. This research presents the development of Mahjong Pintar Anak, an HTML5-based educational game designed for kindergarten children aged 4–6 years. The game adapts the classical Mahjong matching concept into an educational tool for learning letters, numbers, colors, shapes, and animals. Using web technologies (HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript), the game offers five progressive difficulty levels with interactive audio-visual feedback and positive reinforcement systems. The development methodology follows an iterative design approach with child-centered design principles. Usability testing with 30 kindergarten children showed a 92% success rate in independent gameplay and an 87% engagement score. Teacher evaluation indicated significant improvements in visual memory (78%), pattern recognition (82%), and concentration duration (65%). The game’s lightweight architecture (under 3MB) and browser-based deployment ensure accessibility across devices without installation requirements. Results demonstrate that Mahjong Pintar Anak effectively combines entertainment and education, providing a promising tool for early childhood learning that aligns with developmental psychology principles.
