Spent Oak Island: The French Naval System Behind the Legendary Mystery Author: Jerald Lee Harrah
Abstract
Oak Island has been the subject of centuries of speculation, with myths attributing hiddentreasure to Templars, Vikings, or privateers. This paper presents evidence that Oak Island wasnever a treasure site but a fully engineered operational system designed by the French Navy inthe late 17th century. Through historical analysis, topographical evaluation, and reconstructionof hydraulic and logistical systems, this study identifies nine interconnected components thatdemonstrate deliberate planning for maritime logistics, storage, and vessel management. Thefindings provide a comprehensive understanding of Oak Island’s historical function, debunkpopular myths, and reframe the island as a strategic French naval installation rather than atreasure trap.
