Abstract

Is AI analogous to super-computer modeling of weather forecast? There's a family resemblance between modern AI systems and the super-computer models used in weather forecasting — but the analogy only works up to a point. The differences are just as important as the similarities. A clearer comparison helps you see what AI is and is not doing. 🌦️ Where the analogy works 🌦️ 비유가 유효한 부분 Both AI systems and weather-forecast models share several structural features: AI 1. Both rely on massive computation 1. • AI models run huge matrix multiplications across billions of parameters. • In both cases, scale matters: more compute → better performance. 2. Both depend on large datasets 2. • AI models ingest text, images, audio, code, etc. • More data → better predictive accuracy. 3. Both produce probabilistic outputs 3. 둘 다 확률적 출력을 생성 • Weather forecasts say "60% chance of rain." • AI models generate the most statistically likely next token, image, or action. • Neither system is deterministic in the everyday sense. So yes — AI and weather forecasting share the logic of pattern extraction + probabilistic prediction at scale.
