Abstract

A beginner-level MATLAB mathematics and music processing tutorial live script, developed for science outreach activities by the Sound Interactions in the Metaverse Centre for Doctoral Training (SIM CDT) at the AudioLab, University of York. This tutorial introduces fundamental concepts in digital audio, such as waveforms and auralization using a hands-on, interactive approach. The script covers: Basic MATLAB operators and vectors Generating and visualising sine waves Simple music synthesis Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release (ADSR) envelope generation Auralization via convolution reverberation Impulse responses and audio samples used for convolution reverberation are taken from the Openair dataset.
