Abstract

DRAFT- THIS PAPER is in "flush out" mode! There are still errors in proofs. Please feel free to review, but there are errors in the descriptions deep into the paper that are in revision. We construct a lattice Dirac operator on the three-dimensional diamond lattice that supports a single chiral zero mode within a rigorously defined admissible gauge sector. The construction exploits the bipartite geometry and tetrahedral symmetry of the diamond lattice to achieve exact spatial chirality without fermion doubling. We establish three principal results. First, we prove analytically that the spatial Dirac operator has a unique isolated zero in the Brillouin zone at $p=0$. The proof proceeds in two steps: explicit trigonometric analysis shows that the bilinear form $Q(p) = \sum_k S_k^2(p)$ vanishes if and only if $p = 0$, while Taylor expansion and compactness arguments establish uniform lower bounds $|Q(p)| \geq c_0 > 0$ away from the origin. This rigorously proves that $|\det A(p)|$ is bounded away from zero for all $p \neq 0$, with no reliance on numerical evidence. Second, we prove that the operator is Fredholm and compute its index analytically, obtaining $\mathrm{ind}(D_{\mathrm{sp}}) = +1$ through multiple independent methods, including winding number analysis and Atiyah--Singer index integration. Third, we show that smooth continuum gauge fields at sufficiently small lattice spacing lie within the admissible configuration sector, demonstrating that this sector contains physically relevant field configurations rather than being an artificial truncation. Using heat-kernel methods, we further establish anomaly matching in a controlled scaling limit. The uniqueness of the chiral mode, the index computation, and anomaly reproduction are all proven rigorously within the admissible sector at finite volume. The construction evades the Nielsen--Ninomiya theorem by violating its global smoothness assumptions through a momentum-dependent geometric grading intrinsic to the lattice, while preserving locality and exact spatial chirality. Persistence of a uniform spectral gap in the infinite-volume limit, required for a fully nonperturbative chiral gauge theory, is isolated as a single explicit conjecture supported by numerical evidence. Our results thus provide a geometrically controlled, finite-volume realization of chiral fermions on the lattice and precisely identify the remaining obstacle to infinite-volume completion.
