Abstract

PiXY is an open-source image analysis tool designed to bridge electron microscopy and microanalytical instruments. It automatically detects particles in electron microscope images (SEM/BSE), extracts their centroid coordinates, and converts pixel positions to stage coordinates for subsequent analysis on LA-ICP-MS, SIMS, or other microanalytical systems. Key features:- Automatic particle segmentation using K-means clustering- Centroid extraction with sub-pixel accuracy- Coordinate transformation between microscope and analytical instrument reference frames- Interactive parameter tuning with real-time preview- Export to CSV/Excel formats compatible with analytical instrument software This tool streamlines the workflow for multi-instrument analysis, enabling precise targeting of particles identified in electron microscopy for elemental/isotopic analysis.
