Rigidity at the Boundary of Disjoint Coverings
Abstract
We investigate rigidity phenomena arising at the boundary of disjoint covering systems, focusing on the interplay between local admissibility and global structural constraints. We show that, even when local consistency conditions are satisfied, global saturation effects impose unavoidable rigidity at the boundary, preventing arbitrary extension or deformation of coverings. This rigidity is not metric in nature but combinatorial and structural, emerging from accumulation of exclusion constraints. The framework clarifies how global obstruction can arisewithout invoking continuous geometry, and provides a unifying perspective applicable todiscrete geometry, combinatorics, and number-theoretic covering problems. This work serves as a foundational study for subsequent applicationsto global-local obstruction problems, including higher-dimensional rigidity, structural saturation, and related phenomenain mathematical physics.
