Visibility politics of amateur writing Platform rules, label production and ecosystem transformation
Abstract
Abstract: This article systematically analyzes the generation mechanism and evolution logic of the phenomenon of "amateur writing" in China from the perspective of "visibility political economy". The study found that the transition from "seeing" to "breaking the circle" of amateur writing is not a natural democratization process under technological empowerment, but follows a set of "visibility allocation rules" constructed by platform capital, media logic, and market preferences. This set of rules, through the three intermediaries of non-fiction platform screening, self-media labeling, and publishing market integration, transforms diverse individual experiences into "cultural wonders" that meet the expectations of the urban middle class, leading to its narrowing to "bottom-level writing" in the 1.0 stage. The study further pointed out that this phenomenon is transitioning from "media mining out" 1.0 to "direct readers" 2.0, with some creators achieving "disintermediation" through social media, and the subject matter tends to be everyday. This paper critically reflects on the dilemma of algorithm homogenization and explores the possible path of building a healthy literature ecosystem. AI was used when searching for literature.
