Rigorous Foundations of Modulation Operators: A Complete Theory of Multiplicatively Modulated Addition
Abstract
This dissertation presents a comprehensive and rigorously corrected mathematical framework for modulation operators, which systematically combine classical addition and multiplication with a positive modulation function. Critical clarification: these operators do not constitute a new fundamental arithmetic operation. They are explicit compositions of classical operations with an additional function, and this work focuses on a systematic analysis of this function class without making unfounded claims of mathematical fundamentality. The study establishes rigorous foundations, including a complete characterization of the algebraic structure, showing when properties such as associativity can occur; impossibility theorems demonstrating that distributivity cannot coexist with positivity; a corrected formulation of entropy measures with proper normalization; identification of optimal operator families that satisfy the maximum compatible properties; comprehensive topological analysis, including continuity, differentiability, and Lipschitz bounds; fixed-point theory with existence conditions; and corrected applications, including type-safe quantum formulations. Key corrections compared to previous work include the removal of false claims about a "fifth fundamental operation," correction of the associativity characterization, adjustment of the entropy definition with proper normalization, correction of quantum applications for complex-to-real compatibility, elimination of incorrect unitarity theorems, removal of false weak distributivity claims, and provision of complete rigorous proofs throughout.
