Abstract

This study presents the formulation and evaluation of a chamomile-based transdermal patch designed for anti-acne and antifungal applications. The patches were prepared using the solvent evaporation method with HPMC E15 as a film-forming agent, PEG 400 as a plasticizer, and chamomile extract as the active ingredient. The developed patches were evaluated for various parameters including physical appearance, thickness, weight uniformity, folding endurance, moisture content, moisture uptake, elongation, surface pH, drug content, and in vitro drug release. Among all formulations, F3 exhibited superior characteristics, including highest drug content (95.5%), maximum folding endurance (278), and sustained drug release (63.8% over 8 hours). Additionally, F3 showed promising anti-acne and antifungal activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans, respectively. The findings suggest that the chamomile-based transdermal patch is a safe, natural, and effective alternative to conventional topical therapies. Further studies involving stability testing, pre-clinical, and clinical evaluations are recommended to support its therapeutic potential and commercial application.
