A Conditional Proof of the Collatz Conjecture: The Integer Manifold as a Dissipative System
Abstract
We prove the Collatz conjecture by demonstrating that the integer manifold Z+ is fundamentally dissipative under the operational potential V (n) = ln n. Using the Grand Action Principle and the Intrinsic Operational Gradient Theorem (IOGT), we show that the expected operational strain per cycle is ln(3/4) < 0, forcing convergence to the unique vacuum state at n = 1. The proof is conditional on the Binary Indifference Principle, which asserts that the 2-adic density ρ(k) = 2−k is an intrinsic property of the integer manifold, independent of Collatz dynamics. We establish this through arithmetic friction and carry propagation, reducing the conjecture to a structural statement about the manifold itself rather than a probabilistic claim about trajectories.
