The Law of Non-Coercive Alignment: A Methodological Constraint for Coherent Cosmology and Harmonic Astrophysics
Abstract
Modern cosmology has entered a regime of unprecedented observational precision. Data from missions such as JWST increasingly probe epochs and scales where traditional model assumptions are strained, producing apparent anomalies including unexpectedly massive early galaxies, rapid supermassive black hole growth, early metal enrichment, and alternative stellar formation pathways. These phenomena are often framed as “mistakes” of the universe or as crises for existing cosmological models. This paper proposes a different diagnosis. We introduce the Law of Non-Coercive Alignment (LNCA)—a relational scientific law that constrains how theoretical models may be aligned with observational data. LNCA does not modify physical dynamics, introduce new particles, or replace established cosmological frameworks. Instead, it governs methodological legitimacy, prohibiting agreement achieved through unregistered model flexibility, suppression of structured residuals, or failure to generalize beyond the fitting domain. LNCA formalizes a distinction between structural laws, which govern system behavior (e.g., Dynamic Precision, Harmonic Equilibrium, Harmonic Phase Translation), and relational laws, which govern inference, interpretation, and model–data alignment. Within this framework, agreement is admissible only when it preserves diagnostic tension, lawful dispersion, and falsifiability. The paper introduces: a formal statement of LNCA, tolerance-corridor–based alignment constraints, preservation criteria for residual structure, a diagnostic coercion index (κ) to identify inferential overreach, and explicit generalization requirements. These concepts are applied to contemporary challenges in early galaxy formation, supermassive black hole growth, dark-matter–powered stellar phases, and Cosmic Dawn timing constraints. Rather than dismissing anomalies or forcing premature convergence, LNCA reframes them as informative boundary signals—indicators of where inference discipline must be strengthened. This work contributes a methodological safeguard for cosmology and astrophysics in the high-precision era, supporting harmonic astrophysics as a disciplined, spectrum-based interpretive framework while preventing narrative or visual coercion. LNCA preserves scientific humility without sacrificing rigor, ensuring that increased data precision leads to deeper understanding rather than overconfident closure. It does not claim to falsify existing cosmological models nor to introduce new physical dynamics. Further observational and methodological studies are encouraged.
