The purpose of this paper is not to propose an ideal system or institutional design. It presents a minimal definition of Understanding Capitalism by answering one question: What must minimally occur for understanding itself to become value? 1. Position of v1.4 Understanding Capitalism is not a new ideology or slogan.Nor does it reject existing forms of capitalism. This paper addresses only one issue: When we say that understanding becomes value,we are not speaking of reward or evaluation, but of a specific structural moment. 2. No Claim That “Understanding Is Important” This paper does not argue that understanding is importantor that people should think more. Because: Value does not arise at the moment something is declared important. Understanding Capitalism is not a moral claim. It is a structural description. 3. The Minimal Condition for Value The minimal condition under which understanding becomes value is this: Understanding must possess the capacity to update subsequent judgment. What matters is not the existence of understanding. knowing believing one understands being able to explain None of these constitute value. Only the update of judgment marks the point of conversion. 4. Why Understanding Rarely Becomes Value Understanding tends to be: slow difficult to quantify resistant to standardization As a result, institutions and markets have: used understanding as a prerequisitewhile excluding it from the circuit of value. This exclusion fixed the alienation of understanding. 5. The Minimal Definition of Understanding Capitalism Based on the above, this paper defines Understanding Capitalism as follows: Understanding Capitalism refers to a condition in whichunderstanding operates as an update of judgment, and that update is explicitly connected to the circuit of value creation. This is not an ideal. It is a minimum condition. 6. Necessary Clarifications Understanding Capitalism does not: glorify effort mandate thinking enforce introspection Understanding acquires value only when exercised. Once understanding becomes obligatory,it is alienated again. 7. Position Reached in v1.4 Only one point is fixed in v1.4: Understanding becomes value when judgment is updatedand that update influences subsequent action and choice. Nothing more is claimed. 8. Open Space Ahead This definition is not a conclusion. It is an entry point. Which judgments are updated? For whom does the update become value? Where does AI intervene? These questions remain open. One condition remains constant: The initiative of understanding must remain in the hands of the actor. Note This paper deliberately restricts itself to a minimal definition of Understanding Capitalism.Applications, institutional designs, and evaluation mechanisms are intentionally excluded. Understanding is not delivered. It is exercised as an update.
