This paper does not discuss evaluation systems, reward mechanisms, or institutional reforms. It focuses exclusively on the minimal structural condition required for understanding to enter the circuit of value. 1. Problem Setting Even when understanding updates judgment,it does not automatically become value. This is because contemporary systems frequently exhibit the following structure: judgment is updated but the update is not treated as belonging to the actor the result is absorbed into external evaluation or decision systems In such cases, understanding is once again alienated. 2. The Issue of Appropriation Typical situations in which understanding fails to become value include: awareness without discretion understanding without decision authority judgment change without alteration of evaluation criteria Here, understanding exists, but it is disconnected from the value circuit. 3. Core Proposition of v1.5 The minimal proposition advanced in this paper is as follows: Understanding becomes value only whenthe judgment update is treated as the actor’s own judgment. Correctness, efficiency, or outcome are not the criteria. success or failure social recognition measurable results None of these are required conditions. 4. Understanding Initiative and Value Conversion For understanding to become value, the following structure must hold: judgment is updated the update is recognized as belonging to the actor it is connected to subsequent action selection When step (2) is absent, understanding is reduced to a prerequisite or explanatory burden. 5. Avoiding Misinterpretation This paper does not claim that: everyone must have decision authority organizations or systems should be abolished evaluation and reward are meaningless The analysis concerns neither institutional design nor policy, but the minimal point at which value emerges. 6. Minimal Definition of Understanding Capitalism v1.5 Based on the above, this paper defines Understanding Capitalism as follows: Understanding Capitalism refers to a condition in whichjudgment updates are treated as belonging to the actorand are connected to subsequent choices. Nothing more is asserted. 7. Position Reached in v1.5 Only one point is fixed: The moment understanding is appropriated by others,it ceases to be value. Value resides in the continuous exercise of understandingas one’s own judgment. 8. Open Questions Ahead At what scale does an “actor” exist? Can organizations, collectives, or AI qualify as actors? How is value handled when judgment updates are distributed? These questions are deferred to v1.6 and beyond. One condition remains invariant: Once the initiative of understanding is lost, alienation reappears. Note This paper deliberately avoids normative prescriptions or design proposals.Understanding is not delivered or allocated. It becomes value only when exercised and owned.
