The minimal condition for understanding to become value is the update of judgment. Such an update becomes value only when it is treated as belonging to the actor. In v1.6, the series addresses an unavoidable question in the age of AI: Can AI become the “actor” of understanding? This paper neither criticizes nor praises AI.It examines the question strictly within the minimal framework of Understanding Capitalism. 1. Why AI Becomes a Central Issue AI simultaneously performs the following functions: generates judgments supports or substitutes action selection induces judgment updates in humans Because of this, AI is often treated as if it were a judging subject. However, the issue here is not capability. 👉 The issue is whether AI holds the initiative of understanding. 2. Definition of the “Actor” (Reconfirmed) In this series, an “actor” does not mean: an entity that guarantees correctness an entity that bears legal or moral responsibility an entity with consciousness or emotion An actor is defined as: the position that appropriates a judgment update as its own. 3. What Actually Happens with AI With the mediation of AI, the following phenomena occur: human judgment updates are triggered reasons behind updates become opaque ownership of the updated judgment becomes ambiguous The problem here is not AI accuracy or ethics. 👉 The problem is the loss of clarity regarding where initiative resides. 4. Core Conclusion of v1.6 The conclusion of v1.6 is explicit: AI cannot become an actor of understanding. The reason is structural: AI can generate judgment updates but it does not appropriate those updates as its own AI can produce judgment updates, but it does not own them. 5. Proper Position of AI Within Understanding Capitalism, AI should be positioned as: an accelerator of judgment updates a mediator that expands available options a support system that does not replace understanding AI does not become the actor. 👉 The actor uses AI to update judgment. Only this relationship avoids alienation. 6. The Moment Alienation Reappears Alienation re-emerges when: judgment updates are treated as “AI decisions” humans execute actions without owning reasons initiative is delegated to optimization outputs This is not a technical failure. It is a misplacement of initiative. 7. Position Reached in v1.6 Only one point is fixed in this paper: The initiative of understanding is neither distributed nor shared. It exists only where it is exercised. AI does not seize initiative.Alienation occurs the moment initiative is handed over. 8. Questions Left Open How is initiative handled when judgment updates are distributed? Can collectives or organizations become actors? How can systems support understanding without appropriating initiative? These questions will be addressed in later stages. Note This paper deliberately avoids institutional or normative proposals. It is restricted to confirming the minimal structure of Understanding Capitalism. Understanding is not delegated.Initiative is not outsourced.
