The minimal condition for understanding to become value is a judgment update. That update becomes value only when it is appropriated by the actor. AI, collectives, and institutions cannot become actors of understanding. Initiative is not distributed; it exists only where it is exercised. Collisions of initiative do not negate value; they may generate it. Based on these results, v2.0 advances to the next question: Under what conditions can the initiative of understanding survive within society? This paper does not propose ideals or institutional blueprints. It identifies the minimal conditions under which initiative is not erased. 1. Problem Setting: Why Initiative Disappeared The initiative of understanding is not a new concept. For a long time, it existed as an implicit assumption. However, modern systems introduced structural shifts: correctness is decided externally evaluation is replaced by numerical metrics judgment is delegated to procedures As a result, understanding remained a prerequisite, but ceased to function as a source of value. 2. Position Statement of v2.0 v2.0 adopts the following position: Understanding does not become value because it is important. It becomes value only when exercised as initiative. This is not a moral claim. It is a structural clarification. 3. Three Conditions Under Which Initiative Is Lost The initiative of understanding disappears under the following conditions: judgment updates are nullified reasons for judgment are detached from the actor initiative is absorbed into optimization, authority, or majority rule These are not ethical failures. They are misplacements of initiative. 4. Minimal Conditions for Initiative to Persist The minimal condition proposed in v2.0 is highly constrained: Judgment updates must remain appropriated by the actorand continue to influence subsequent choices. Evaluation, success, and consensus are not required. The sole requirement is: initiative must not be reclaimed. 5. Relation to the Economy (Minimal Clarification) Understanding Capitalism does not claim that: everyone becomes free dissatisfaction disappears labor becomes enjoyable It addresses only one issue: 👉 where value emerges Value emerges only whereinitiative continues to be exercised. 6. Positioning in the Age of AI AI does not seize initiative. However, it makes initiative easier to erase. reasons become opaque decisions accelerate optimal solutions dominate Therefore, v2.0 neither rejects nor glorifies AI. 👉 It asks only where initiative is placed. 7. Position Reached in v2.0 Only one point is fixed in this paper: The initiative of understanding is not designed into society. It remains only when conditions that erase it are avoided. Understanding Capitalism describesthe conditions under which initiative survives. 8. Entry to the Next Phase v2.0 is not a conclusion. It is an entry point. Questions that follow include: how evaluation and reward can avoid reclaiming initiative how education can restore initiative without enforcing it how systems can support initiative without appropriating it These will be addressed in v2.1 and beyond. Note This paper does not present ideals or policy prescriptions.Understanding Capitalism is not an ideology, but a description of minimal structural conditions. Initiative is not granted.Initiative is not reclaimed.Initiative continues through exercise.
