Abstract

This study presents an exhaustive longitudinal and comparative analysis of the atmospheric electrical state and air quality parameters in two distinct urban topographies of Karnataka: Mysore and Bengaluru. Building upon foundational research (2009) that established baseline levels for Mysore, this manuscript integrates high-resolution 2025 data to examine the intricate correlations between atmospheric electrical conductivity and criteria pollutants (SO2,NO2,PM2.5,PM10). The physics of atmospheric ionization is explored through the lens of small-ion depletion in high-aerosol environments, specifically examining the transition from coarse to fine particulate dominance. Our findings indicate that while Mysore maintains a "Satisfactory" Air Quality Index (AQI), Bengaluru has reached critical pollution thresholds in 2025, with PM10 levels frequently doubling national safety standards. A strong negative correlation (r−0.82) was observed between atmospheric conductivity and Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter (RSPM), emphasizing the dominant role of urban aerosols in altering the Global Electric Circuit (GEC) at the local level. Furthermore, we investigate the "Ion-Induced Nucleation" (IIN) feedback loop, where trace gases and ions co-create new particles, further suppressing conductivity. The study discusses the implications of these changes on the atmospheric electric field, potential influences on local micro-meteorology, and the heightened radiological risks associated with unattached radon progeny in depleted ion environments.
