Abstract

This preprint proposes an existential–ethical framework for the 21st-century “Wave turn” in civilization. If the 20th century can be summarized as the pursuit of static Bit (decomposition into stable components, codes, and measurable units), the 21st century increasingly unfolds as the pursuit of dynamic Wave—the recovery of process, relational field dynamics, and the generative “in-between” (Ma, 間), “emptiness” (śūnyatā, 空), and relation itself. The paper argues that a core limitation of modernity lies in the absolutization of reason and ego, which produces noun-fixation: the self and suffering are reified into fixed states. Once suffering is treated as a noun-state, the response space collapses into defensive primitives—escape (spiritual exit), struggle (rational confrontation/optimization), and contemporary freeze (anesthetization via metrics, automation, and compliance control). Although historically meaningful, these responses tend to shrink the system’s adaptive capacity and increase collapse probability into “ruinous attractors” such as nihilism, life-denial, and purification violence. Against this failure mode, the paper introduces Envelopment Ethics as a generativity-first orientation and a practical life-process technique. True “verbification” is defined not as linguistic reformulation but as existential method: treating suffering (dukkha) not as a static condition but as a phase within the life-process, capable of transformation toward resonance. In Wave terms, ethical good is reframed as generativity preservation—maintaining and enlarging the basin of meaning-production (Basin(Γ)) within the relational field (Φ). Two operational corollaries translate the theory into governance design: (i) over-optimization policies shrink Basin(Γ) and accelerate meaning collapse (the KPI trap), while (ii) dialogue and trust infrastructures enlarge Basin(Γ) and stabilize resonance as a sustainable mode of life. This work is designed to function as a series-connecting node within the broader “It from Wave / Life OS” program on generativity-first ontology, ethics, and governance. It clarifies the existential foundation (“suffering as process”) that underwrites related preprints on metric over-optimization, inclusion ethics beyond compliance, and the wave/field primacy of information and reality. In this sense, the present paper provides the inner life / ethical mechanics of the Life-OS transition, while companion records address mathematical framing, institutional translation, and macro-civilizational diagnostics.
