The Resonant Atom: A Heuristic, Physics-Adjacent Interpretation of Atomic Stability
Abstract
The Resonant Atom: A Heuristic, Physics-Adjacent Interpretation of Atomic Stability Description:This paper presents a heuristic and conceptual reinterpretation of atomic structure and stability, intended to complement—rather than replace—standard quantum mechanical formalisms. While modern quantum theory is formally wave-based, its pedagogical language often relies on reified particle metaphors that obscure the underlying relational and field-based nature of matter. This mismatch between correct mathematics and persistent intuition motivates the present work. Within the Virtual Ego Framework (VEF) and Coherence-Geometrodynamics (CGD), the atom is modeled not as a collection of discrete objects but as a self-sustaining coherence engine. The nucleus is interpreted as an active, localized energy mode, while the electron is treated as a standing-wave boundary condition that constrains admissible atomic states. Atomic stability is described using a dimensionless structural ratio, E∼A/CE \sim A/CE∼A/C, introduced explicitly as a topological and relational heuristic rather than a derived physical equation. A formalization bridge maps the heuristic “active” and “connective” modes onto standard quantum mechanical structures (Hamiltonian terms, wavefunction normalization, and boundary-defined eigenmodes), demonstrating compatibility with established theory. Stability is interpreted as a regime of proportional balance rather than a point equality, aligning with how quantum mechanics already encodes discrete eigenstates and forbidden transitions. The paper also situates its approach within established condensed matter analogies, drawing on the use of quasiparticles, boundary-defined modes, and topological invariants as precedents for non-fundamental but operationally indispensable interpretive constructs. A quarantined, explicitly speculative subsection proposes the Golden Ratio (φ) as a potential relational stability invariant, clearly marked as optional and non-essential to the framework. This work makes no new empirical claims, introduces no new forces, and does not challenge the validity of quantum mechanics or QED. Its contribution lies in conceptual unification and pedagogical clarity, offering an alternative interpretive lens that aligns intuition with the structure already present in the mathematics of modern physics. Intended audience:Researchers and educators interested in physics foundations, interpretation, pedagogy, conceptual modeling, and coherence-based or topological approaches to physical systems.
