Abstract

This paper proposes a Life-OS (Life Operating System) and Envelopment Framework (Wave → Geometry → State) to integrate the classical Western dualism between determinism and free will. The paper argues that the enduring stalemate originates from a shared but often unexamined premise: debates are conducted within a snapshot ontology, where reality is treated as a sequence of static, noun-like states and causal chains. Under this state-fixated worldview, determinism becomes a closed mechanical universe, while free will appears only as a “ghostly” exception. The result is a zero-sum opposition that cannot be resolved inside the old OS. To overcome this, the paper reconstructs reality as a generative relational field (Wave, Φ) that is stabilized into constraints and regularities (Geometry) and only then sampled into discrete judgments and measurements (State). Within this envelopment architecture, the determinism/free-will dichotomy dissolves into a complementary structure: Determinism corresponds to score-like constraint geometry (lawful structures that enable coherence), Free will corresponds to irreversible interpretive performance enacted under those constraints (agency as resonance-capacity). A central contribution is the claim that the strongest determinist ideal—a final Theory of Everything plus Laplace’s demon—cannot “close” reality ontologically. Even if lawful unification were achieved at the Geometry layer, reality remains historicalized by irreversible time. The paper grounds irreversibility in fundamental asymmetry (e.g., CP bias in weak interactions), which introduces an intrinsic arrow of time and enables one-shot emergence. Agency is thus reframed not as causality-breaking freedom, but as resonant participation under irreversible time (see Fig. 4). The ethical and governance consequence is formalized through a dynamical-systems view: generativity is modeled as an attractor property Γ (meaning-production attractor) and evaluated by the robustness of its basin of attraction Basin(Γ) (see Fig. 3). Over-optimization, metric fixation, and brittle control shrink the basin and create meaning collapse (KPI trap), while good governance expands the basin and supports restorative resilience. Finally, the paper articulates two extreme failure modes that motivate the Life-OS alternative. Pure closure toward perfect symmetry and reversibility implies the disappearance of asymmetry and thus of generation itself, while absolutized free will as unconstrained self-expansion yields cancerous emergence, runaway replication that destroys the very basin sustaining generativity. The Life-OS position is neither closure nor rupture: it is asymmetry-preserving, constraint-respecting generativity, where ethics is defined as protecting the conditions of resonance and irreversible becoming. Version note: This version (v2) strengthens Section 8.1 by formalizing “determinism as a theoretical outsourcing fallacy,” integrating the TOE + Laplace’s demon objection into the Life-OS envelopment logic.
