The Inner Mime: A Philosophical Exploration of Silence, Experience, and Painting (A Self-Experience–Based Study in Art Philosophy)
Abstract
The Inner Mime: A Philosophical Exploration of Silence, Experience, and Painting (A Self-Experience–Based Study in Art Philosophy) This research makes an original contribution to the field of art philosophy by introducing the concept of the “Inner Mime.” Unlike the conventional understanding of a mime as a stage performer, this study redefines the mime as an internal, silent creative consciousness residing within the artist. The Inner Mime functions as a source of invisible experiences—such as emotions, memories, silence, struggle, and energy—which are not expressed through words but through embodied sensation. The study further proposes that the painter is not the primary creator but a medium through which the Inner Mime manifests itself visually. Lines and colors thus become translations of silent inner experiences rather than representations of external reality. By establishing a deep philosophical and experiential connection between mime performance and painting, this research offers an interdisciplinary framework that bridges performing and visual arts. The originality of this study lies in its phenomenological approach, grounded in self-experience, where silence is interpreted not as absence but as an active, generative force of artistic creation. This re-interpretation of silence and the positioning of the artist as a medium constitute a new conceptual perspective within contemporary art discourse.
