The Autonomous AI-Integrated Robotic Phantom (AIRP): A Hardware-Software Hybrid for Preclinical Dental Training
Abstract
Technical Framework Proposal: The Autonomous AI-Integrated Robotic Phantom (AIRP) for Preclinical Dental Training. Summary: This technical note introduces a novel hybrid simulation framework that integrates Artificial Intelligence directly into the hardware of a robotic dental phantom. Unlike traditional software-based AI, the AIRP utilizes internal sensor-fusion (haptic, pressure, and positional sensors) to provide real-time, autonomous proctoring for dental students. Key Implementations: Autonomous Proctoring: The AI detects procedural errors (e.g., pulp floor perforation) and provides immediate haptic or auditory feedback. Radiographic Assessment: Integrated sensors evaluate radiographic angulation and technique automatically. Bio-Reflex Simulation: The phantom simulates physiological patient responses to improve clinical readiness. Institutional Goal: To standardize preclinical competency and reduce instructor subjectivity within the dental curriculum at Al-Ahliyya Amman University.
