Abstract
Conjugated porous carbon materials with mixed sp²/sp³ hybridization, such as graphdiyne, have emerged as promising candidates for next-generation energy storage due to their intrinsic porosity, tunable electronic structure, and high affinity. However, practical deployment remains limited by structural fragility, interface instability, and sensitivity to contamination. Here, we propose a new class of Glass-Templated Conjugated Porous Carbon Composites (CPCs)—in which sp²/sp³-dominant carbon networks are confined, or arrested within a defect-rich glassy matrix coupled to dispersed metal domains. This architecture disorder, confinement, and heterointerfaces as functional features rather than liabilities. We outline the theoretical structural motifs, charge-transport mechanisms, and a relevance of this composite class, and argue that GT-CPCs represent a scalable, defect-tolerant alternative to crystalline carbons for durable, high-rate energy storage systems.
