Abstract

This study provides a critical and analytical reading of Diodorus Siculus’ Bibliotheca Historica (Book III) to explore and pinpoint a location in the text described in terms of universal sacrality in pre-Islamic Arabia. The research contextualizes the text within its historical, geographical, and epistemological frameworks, emphasizing the symbolic structure of the sacred site, periodic ritual practices, perennial water management, and a unique supervisory system. It also traces the transmission of the description from the Ptolemaic expedition of Ariston (c. 280–250 BCE) to Agatharchides of Cnidus (c. 130–120 BCE), highlighting the continuity of sacred traditions centuries before Islam. The study contributes to the re-evaluation of pre-Islamic Arabia as a complex and sacred cultural landscape
