Colchicine use in post-covid syndrome (Long COVID)
Abstract
The purpose of this work: the data review aims to systematize current data (2021-2025) on the effectiveness of using colchicine in post-COVID syndrome (Long COVID). Key points and conclusions: Colchicine, an anti-inflammatory drug traditionally used to treat gout, Mediterranean fever, and pericarditis, has gained attention as a potential treatment for COVID-19 and its long term consequences, such as post-COVID syndrome (Long COVID). This is due to its ability to inhibit the NLRP3 inflammasome, a key component involved in the development of systemic inflammation and the "cytokine storm" characteristic of severe COVID-19. Despite the lack of strong evidence supporting the importance and effectiveness of routine use of colchicine in Long COVID, its application may be highly relevant. Due to its anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic properties, the drug may be a promising candidate in the selection of therapy for post-COVID syndrome. Keywords: Colchicine, post-COVID syndrome, Long COVID.
