Abstract

Abstract This paper (v3.1) addresses education design as a structural response to alienation,as previously defined in Marx Part I as the externalization of understanding and agency. Here, education is not treated as knowledge transmission, skill training, or evaluation systems.Instead, it is examined as a design problem of agency placement. Education can function either as: a mechanism that reproduces alienation, or an entry point where the agency of understanding is returned to the learner. 1. Alienation Begins in Education Alienation does not first emerge in factories, markets, or institutions. It begins earlier—within educational structures where: answers are provided, evaluation precedes understanding, correctness replaces inquiry. At this point, individuals gradually shift: from agents of understanding, to recipients of explanation. This is the earliest structural conversionfrom understanding-as-action to understanding-as-delivery. 2. When Teaching Reclaims Agency Excessive explanation suppresses understanding. The mechanism is not pedagogical but structural: The more explanation is provided, the more passivity is produced. The clearer the “correct answer,” the weaker the need to explore. The more fixed the definition, the less space remains for questioning. This is not a failure of teaching skill. It is a misplacement of agency. 3. Conditions for Reclaiming Agency in Education Education that restores agency must satisfy the following conditions: Answers are not delivered. Instead, objects of inquiry are made explicit. Names are provided, explanations are withheld. Maps are drawn, routes are not prescribed. Importantly, not understanding is not a failure. The failure occurs only whenone does not know what to investigate. 4. Education as an Exploration Tool, Not a Manual The structure adopted in this series contrasts with conventional textbooks: Main text: describes terrain. Names: function as signposts. Explanations: minimized. Exploration: delegated to the reader. The optimal learning state is not mastery, but: “I do not yet understand —but I know where to look.” This is the precise location where agency of understanding resides. 5. Position within Marx Part I This paper does not attempt to resolve Marx. Instead, it positions education as: a site where alienation first becomes visible, a mechanism through which alienation is reproduced, and a possible entry point where agency can be preserved. Education is not a solution to alienation. However, it is a critical structural junction. Conclusion Understanding is not the receipt of correct answers. Understanding occurs whenthe object of inquiry becomes clear. Education can either obscure this clarityor preserve it. At this junction, education becomes either a reproductive system of alienationor a gateway for reclaiming agency. Credit Author: Y.
