Abstract

This preprint presents an experimental study on the use of e-waste plastic as a partial replacement for fine aggregate in concrete, contributing to ongoing efforts to reduce environmental pollution and promote sustainable construction materials. The work responds to the growing global challenge of electronic waste accumulation and the increasing demand for alternatives to natural sand, whose extraction has significant ecological impacts. In this study, waste plastics recovered from discarded televisions and printers were processed into three particle sizes and incorporated into concrete mixes at varying replacement levels. The research evaluates how these materials influence the mechanical performance of concrete, with a focus on compressive and flexural strength after 28 days of curing. The findings highlight both the limitations and the potential of e‑waste plastic as a lightweight, non‑structural construction material, particularly at lower replacement ratios.Beyond the technical results, the study demonstrates how integrating e‑waste into concrete production supports circular economy principles by diverting plastic waste from landfills, reducing pressure on natural resources, and offering a pathway toward more responsible material use in the built environment. The work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). This preprint contributes to the broader conversation on sustainable materials, green building practices, and innovative approaches to waste valorisation. It may be useful to researchers, engineers, policymakers, and practitioners exploring environmentally conscious alternatives in construction.
