Abstract

Your agentic AI just made 47,000 decisions while you read this sentence. Your governance committee meets quarterly. We're governing systems that operate at machine speed with frameworks designed for human speed. It's like posting a speed limit sign for electrons. The sign might make us feel responsible, but physics doesn't care about our policies. Businesses complain that government polices slow down innovation. We do it to ourselves by allowing harm to occur under the guise of "efficiency" and "learning" rather than building governance in from the beginning.
