Abstract

The increasing levels of stress among health science students have raised concerns regarding their mental well-being and academic performance. The primary aim of this study was to determine the stress coping strategies employed by Health Science students. Specifically, it sought to identify the stressors that contributed to stress, assess the coping mechanisms utilized to manage stress, evaluate the effects of stress on academic performance and overall well-being, and examine the availability of resources that can help address stress. The study utilized a cross-sectional descriptive study design, with participants selected through a systematic random sampling technique. Findings showed that financial challenges and academic workload were the most significant stressors, while adaptive coping strategies such as time management and social support were most commonly used. A majority of students reported that stress negatively affected academic performance. These findings provide valuable insights into student mental health challenges and inform institutional strategies to enhance student well-being and academic success.
