PATIENT-SPECIFIC PROSTHETICS AND IMPLANTS USING BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
Abstract
Patient-specific prosthetics and implants are an important innovation in biomedical engineering that improve patient outcomes and quality of life. Standardized devices may not fit all patients properly, leading to discomfort, reduced mobility, and complications. Advances in imaging, 3D modeling, and additive manufacturing allow the creation of customized implants tailored to individual anatomy. Personalized devices enhance biomechanical alignment, accelerate recovery, and increase patient satisfaction. Collaboration between engineers and clinicians ensures precision, safety, and functional efficiency. This study reviews the design process, material selection, fabrication techniques, and clinical applications of patient-specific prosthetics and implants. The paper also discusses challenges and future perspectives in developing individualized medical devices. Overall, patient-specific implants represent a convergence of technology and medicine, offering safe and effective solutions for unique patient needs.
