A Sense-Making Toolkit for Interpreting Lithium Prescribing in Bipolar Disorder
Abstract
This record documents an emerging sense-making toolkit developed through translational medical humanities to support patient safety inquiry into lithium prescribing for bipolar disorder. The work focuses on informal interpretive environments shaped by language, memory, and historically patterned experience that influence how lithium is anticipated, discussed, and received, yet remain largely outside formal clinical and governance frameworks. Rather than presenting empirical findings, this contribution offers a conceptual and methodological resource intended to support question generation and investigative sense-making. It translates accumulated interpretive insight into analytically usable prompts that can inform patient safety investigations, provider engagement, and future scholarly work. This summary functions as a provisional registration of authorship and conceptual priority for a wider programme of interpretive research. A longer methodological paper will further elaborate the toolkit and its broader applicability.
