CSD v2: An Operational System for Real-Time Ambient Seismic Instability Detection
Abstract
The Continuous Seismic Destabilization (CSD) system is a passive, continuously operating framework for detecting large-scale instability within the ambient seismic field prior to conventional event confirmation. Unlike magnitude- or trigger-based monitoring systems, CSD evaluates coherence and structural changes in background seismic noise to identify destabilization states indicative of impending large-scale seismic activity. This record documents CSD v2, representing the transition from an earlier conceptual framework to a live, operational system. The v2 architecture incorporates automated channel selection, multi-region signal fusion, fault-tolerant operation, and real-time alert semantics based on a time-varying instability signal, Θ(t). Alerts are timestamped and designed for integration with infrastructure operations, insurance workflows, and independent system logging. CSD v2 is designed for passive deployment and operates independently of existing alert infrastructures, requiring no new sensors or intrusive integration. This document describes system behavior and operational characteristics at a conceptual level only. All implementation details, parameterizations, and source code are proprietary and not disclosed in this publication.
