No Superintelligence Without Thermodynamic Governance
Abstract
This paper introduces a framework of endogenous thermodynamic governance for advanced artificial intelligence systems and advances the claim that no durable form of superintelligence can emerge without explicit integration of the energetic cost of information. In contrast to dominant approaches based primarily on model scaling, this work identifies a structural limit: an information system that neither measures nor constrains its own informational production inevitably loses its capacity for regulation and self-correction. This loss of governability is not framed as an ethical or political issue, but as a physical and systemic phase transition. The paper is grounded in a proprietary experimental protocol, based on thousands of comparative iterations between governed and non-governed regimes. The reported observations show that thermodynamic constraints applied solely to informational activity are sufficient to orient the system’s choices, without relying on semantic rules, domain-specific heuristics, or explicit quality objectives. The observed effects reveal the emergence of informational sobriety, characterized by reduced output volume, improved coherence of responses, and increased stability of decision trajectories. This document is a position paper. It describes conditions of viability and a conceptual operational framework, without disclosing implementation mechanisms, exploitable metrics, or reproducible technical details. Its purpose is to articulate a clear physical limit to the design of advanced AI systems and to provide a theoretical foundation for the governance of future intelligences.
