Companion H: Weak Interactions as 5D Junction Transitions
Abstract
We present a unified 5D model for all weak interaction processes within the Elastic Diffusive Cosmology (EDC) framework. The model interprets baryons as Y-junction configurations in the bulk 5D space, with protons and neutrons corresponding to ground state |0⟩ and excited state |1⟩ respectively. Leptons (electrons, positrons, neutrinos) are identified as localized deformations or waves on the 4D brane. A key structural element is the frozen boundary—a one-way energy valve between bulk and brane that naturally explains the irreversibility of weak decays. We demonstrate that this single framework consistently describes: (1) β− decay of free neutrons, (2) β+ decay in proton-rich nuclei, (3) electron capture, (4) inverse beta decay, and (5) double beta decay. All conservation laws (energy, charge, baryon number, lepton number) are satisfied. The model yields a derived expression for the membrane tension σ = m3e c4/(α3¯ h2) and reproduces the neutron lifetime with a barrier action S/¯ h ≈ 60. Calibration statement: The barrier action S/¯ h = 60 is calibrated [Cal] to the measured neutron lifetime τn = 878.4 ± 0.5 s [BL]. The membrane tension σ and its associated scales are derived [Der] from the hypothesis Eσ = mec2/α. Status: This paper presents a hypothesis [P] that achieves validation through consistency with all known weak processes.
