Directionality Ω and Scale Transition: The Minimal Structural Path from Life to Civilization
Abstract
Boundary note (added 2026-07-23): the Ω-centered empirical layer was self-retracted on 2026-05-31. Ω-centered validation is not currently supported as the active empirical basis; this record remains a historical, fixed, Ω-centered record and must not be cited as current validation. See the VOT Empirical Layer Boundary Note — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.20474232. A later four-dataset head-to-head found that order gated by critical slowing does not beat free-energy signals (10.5281/zenodo.21422215, negative result). This work provides a minimal structural account of how directionality Ω transitions from life-consistent individual systems to civilizational-scale structures within The Pleasure Order framework. Rather than offering a sociological survey, historical narrative, or normative proposal, this document isolates the structural constraints that arise when long-range directionality must persist beyond individual lifespans. It demonstrates that neither maximally integrated individuals nor collective aggregation can function as stable carriers of directionality across generational time horizons. From this analysis, four unavoidable scale-transition constraints are derived: replaceability of carriers, non-personal memory, reversible correction pathways, and non-identity-based justification. Enforcing these constraints collapses the space of viable civilizational configurations to a narrow structural region characterized by distributed, non-personal persistence mechanisms. This region corresponds to what has elsewhere been defined as Civilization Level 7. Importantly, this identification is not presented as a prediction, goal, or ideal. Civilization Level 7 is treated strictly as a structural boundary condition—the minimal form compatible with sustained civilizational directionality under uncertainty. This document functions as a logical compression layer, explicitly connecting The Pleasure Order — Structural Overview with Civilization Level 7 by making the scale-transition logic fully explicit. It clarifies a limit rather than asserting a future.
