Fantasía oscura argentina: rasgos distintivos de un campo narrativo emergente. Hacia una poética del gótico rioplatense.
Abstract
Abstract (EN) Dark fantasy has traditionally been studied through Anglo-European critical frameworks. This essay approaches the notion of Argentine dark fantasy as an emergent descriptive field that hybridises horror, fantasy, and psychological introspection while re-signifying locally inflected symbols such as guilt, collective memory, and Southern Cone Gothic sensibilities. Drawing on a corpus of contemporary short stories, novels, and transmedia narratives, the study identifies four recurrent traits: (1) faith conceived as an intimate wound rather than a cosmological system; (2) moral choice prioritised over external menace; (3) redemption articulated as an ambiguous, and often failed, process; and (4) a persistent symbolic anchoring in Argentina’s historical violence. The article concludes by mapping the expanded cultural ecosystem—self-publishing, independent role-playing games, and social media microfiction—through which the sub-genre is currently consolidating outside traditional literary channels.
