The Psychophysioneurosociospiritual (PPNSS) Framework: A Novel Integrative Model for Mental Health and Human Functioning
Abstract
This preprint introduces the Psychophysioneurosociospiritual (PPNSS) framework, an original integrative conceptual model for understanding mental health and human functioning. The PPNSS framework is defined as a holistic system that conceptualizes the human person as a dynamic and interdependent whole constituted by five core dimensions: psychological (mental and emotional processes), physiological (biological and bodily functioning), neurological and neuroscientific (clinical and functional processes of the nervous system), sociological (relational, cultural, and environmental contexts), and spiritual (meaning, purpose, values, and transcendent orientation). Building on this framework, the paper positions Health Integrative Intelligence (HIINT) as an applied construct derived from PPNSS, defined as the adaptive capacity to recognize, integrate, and regulate the psychophysioneurosociospiritual dimensions of life in clinical, personal, and societal contexts. By formally articulating and defining the PPNSS framework, this work establishes an original contribution to interdisciplinary mental health theory and integrative health scholarship .
